My TOP 10 for increasing YouTube engagement

You’ve probably heard a lot about YouTube Marketing. There are a lot of FREE ways to optimize YouTube videos and/or your channel. Here are the TOP/FIRST 10 things to do to increase engagement and views:

1) Share video links on your blog, website and other social media channels. Embed videos in your blog- these are considered back links

2) Identify and use keywords that you want to rank for (be found when people search for)

3) Using these keywords- eye up the competition. Use tools to spy on your competitions performance and even find out the exact meta tags and keywords they are using to rank videos

4) Write great titles, description and tags using your main keywords. Within each video description should be links to other videos, other social media platforms, email lists etc.(i.e. “Free Download: 10 Ways to Help Rank Your Videos on YouTube Today”, “Are you a business owner looking to leverage video marketing? Join our FREE Facebook group here”

5) Choose video thumbnails with caution. Make sure they are attractive and intriguing!

6) Get more subscribers- ask friends and family and use your social channels. Add a subscribe button to your email signature and website. Use tools like TubeAssist to subscribe to 2000 other targeted channels and the law of reciprocity means a percentage of them will subscribe back

7) Use tools to automatically distribute your own content across the web and post to your favorite video sites

8) Follow and engage video influencers within your industry

9) Trick google into ranking your video higher in search results. After you’ve published a video go to Google’s home page and search for your video. Navigate through as many pages as it takes to find it and select it. Do this a few times so that Google recognizes the video and the keywords you used to search. This will help your video move up so it isn’t on page 38 🙁

10) Respond and engage with viewers comments. Ask them to subscribe to your channel

15 Best Social Media Tools From 15 Most Influential Marketers Online

Let’s be honest, social media is a jungle. Forget about the flood of apps, integrations, and add-ons, just figuring out which network you should invest in is overwhelming.

What if you could ask today’s most influential online marketers one question: “What social media tool is your all-time, desert-island, can’t-live-without favorite?”That’s exactly what I did.

1. Neil Patel: Entrepreneur and influencer, NeilPatel.com

“With BuzzSumo you can see what is hot in your space on social media and what isn’t. From there you can craft ideas on the type of blog posts you should write to generate traffic and leads. The best part about BuzzSumo is it also shows you who has shared the content so you can reach out to those influencers and ask them to share your content as well.”

2. Ann Handley: Chief content officer, MarketingProfs

“Instagram is my favorite social network because of its social storytelling simplicity. From fun personal accounts– like Small Chalk and Adam Padilla – to corporate brands, it connects more immediately and deeply with people than any other platform. I still haven’t forgiven them for introducing an algorithm. (Chronological was so much more in line with the ethos of the platform.) But I can’t quit you, Insta.”

3. Joe Pulizzi: Founder, Content Marketing Institute

“Right now in my career, I use social media as almost a pure response vehicle. And I won’t start any new social media apps, platforms, or tools until I’m 100% committed to it. My goal with Twitter (my favorite) is to keep in touch and communicate my appreciation to those people that support me. Once I built an audience on those platforms, my goals and execution changed.”

4. Sam Hurley: Founder, Optim-Eyez

“Start A Fire is one of my all-time favorite social media tools because it provides shared credit to both content publishers and the curators who spread their material. It’s very simple, quick to use, and integrates with other social sharing tools like Buffer. Your face will appear in a pop-up on the articles you share, along with a custom link where you can direct visitors back to your own best content.”

5. Mari Smith: Facebook marketing expert

“Native video is the top reaching post type on Facebook and gets three times the engagement of link posts and two times that of photo posts. I love using Animoto’s gorgeous templates, themes, and stock music. Its new marketing builder tool also makes it super-duper easy to add text overlays – vital for sound-off autoplay videos in the Facebook News Feed because 80% of video ads on Facebook are watched with sound off.”

Native video gets 3x the engagement of link posts & 2x that of photo posts on #Facebook says @marismith. Click To Tweet

6. Ed Leake: Managing director, Midas Media

“When you ask these types of questions, marketers often overlook one big aspect of social – native advertising. As a paid click and data guy, I love Qwaya because it allows me to treat and optimize Facebook as I would AdWords: robust campaign structuring, split-testing, and automation tool set. If CTRs drop or CPC jumps … pause it. Might sound simple, but when you’re managing big accounts and budgets, it’s a godsend.”

7. Jeff Bullas: CEO, JeffBullas.com

“Sumo is a hybrid tool that’s a bit like a Swiss Army knife. It’s helped me thrive and survive in the wilds of the digital world by creating social-sharing buttons – onsite, SMS, Flipboard, and WhatsApp – and tracking my social counts on blog posts. The feature I really love is its Welcome Mat: a pop-up that captures emails. In less than 12 months, it’s collected over 40,000 email subscribers.”

8. Murray Newlands: Co-founder, Due.com

“Most B2B companies on social media are missing a huge opportunity. Staff, customers, and clients won’t post positive comments unless they love you. Beyond that you have to get proactive and make sharing easy. Oktopost’s amplify and collaborate features are built to do exactly that: internally and externally. But love has to be the foundation.”

9. Cammi Pham: Partner, ThinkRenegade

“With the new Instagram algorithm change, consistently posting at the right time has become even more important. Grum makes it easier to upload, process photos, schedule, and add hashtags to the first comment from desktop. For hashtags, I use 80% fixed and 20% tailored. This gives my team more time to focus on real-time engagement, which is life or death on social.”

Consistently posting at the right time on #Instagram is important w/ algorithm change says @cammipham. Click To Tweet

10. Jason Miller: Global content marketing leader, LinkedIn

“I like to keep things simple and streamlined: Less is more. So the tool that I use religiously is Elevate: LinkedIn’s employee advocacy tool. I use it to share, organize, and measure all the content I post across my main three social accounts: LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. I share daily from Elevate and track engagements.”

11. Neal Schaffer: Founder, Maximize Your Social

“eClincher is a comprehensive social media dashboard along the lines of a Hootsuite, but it offers some unique functionality. The feature that I most love is auto post with queues. Basically, it’s a killer feature for companies who have lots of evergreen content and want to share it on a periodic basis across a wide variety of social networks. You can choose to post from your queue as often or as little as you’d like and stop sharing on a certain date, which is perfect if you are promoting an event.”

12. Ross Simmonds: Digital strategist, RossSimmonds.com

“My favorite tool is Venngage. As someone who really likes experimenting with the potential of visual content and visual communication, having access to an infographics tool that is so easy to use speeds up my visual output. Whether you are creating graphics for social, SlideShare, or a presentation, Venngage is super versatile and intuitive.”

13. Shane Barker: Digital strategist, ShaneBarker.com

“Quuu is a hand-curated and content-promotion platform. I use the promotion side to distribute everything. Each article is reviewed by a real person before it is approved because the goal is to promote only the highest quality content. Once the article gets the green light, Quuu adds it to its huge distribution network, which is cool, as I can then see the amount of shares and clicks for each article.”

14. Michael Brenner: CEO, Marketing Insider Group

“Twitter remains my primary social media platform. But alone, Twitter’s unmanageable. That’s why I use Followerwonk to understand who my audience is, when they are most likely to engage, and to find followers who overlap with similar social profiles and influencers. Their analyze feature – which integrates with Buffer – tells you exactly when to post your most important updates for exposure.”

15. Pam Moore: CEO and founder, Marketing Nutz

“I love using  If This Then That (IFTTT) to enable native posting of images on Twitter that are originally posted to Instagram. You can set specific criteria by using hashtags or set it to post to Twitter automatically by default. IFTTT also offers a nearly limitless supply of social and cross-platform ‘recipes.’”

Start Living With Purpose (and stop looking for purpose)

How do you find your purpose? We live in a society where we’re bombarded with stimulus. Now more than ever before, we’re plugged into a rapidly evolving wired world. The dings, rings and buzzes that emanate from our smartphones seem to only stop when we forget to recharge. But in those rare quiet moments, we hear this internal voice telling us that life is supposed to be about more than just accumulating “stuff,” achieving professional success and enjoying the moment. Life is supposed to have some deeper meaning or purpose. But, how do you find your purpose?

The quest to fill the void with a greater purpose is compelling. It sells books, seminars, and movies. It has been dramatized to such an extent that people are figuratively on the floor searching in the dark for the key that will unlock the secret to life contentment, purpose and happiness.

But they never seem to find it. And you know why? Because they’re looking in all the wrong places.

1. Stop looking for it. Start living with it.

This may sound counterintuitive, but if you want to find your purpose, the first step is to stop looking for it. That’s right. Get off your hands and knees. Stop thinking — and over-thinking — about why you are here.

You’ll never really know. We may get some clues about our place in the world, but full-on knowledge of why we are here might just be reserved for the afterlife. More importantly, trying to find your purpose has an inherent risk — you’re assuming it’s all about you.

You ask yourself, “What is my purpose that will help me feel fulfilled on a deeper level?” But here is the problem with this line of thought: Meaning and purpose come when we focus on others — not on ourselves.

If you really want to achieve your potential and live a more meaningful life, stop searching for purpose and start living with purpose.

2. Ask yourself: ‘What am I needed for?’

Instead of concerning yourself with what you need or what you want, ask yourself: “What am I needed for?”

If you really want to make a change in this world, reflect on what’s motivating you. Do you want to be the hero? If the answer is yes, then you are destined for misery. You won’t find meaning helping others if you’re really just trying to feel good or further your own interests. It’s not about what you need. The question is — what is needed from you?

The good news is that you don’t need to search very far. Opportunities are right in front of you — start with your friends, family and community. Within your grasp are people in need. Start asking what you can do for them.

But here is the nuance that often trips people up. I’m not suggesting that you ask what is needed. There could be a security issue, but you may not be a police officer. There may be a health risk, but you may not be a doctor. You can’t solve a problem you are not qualified to fix.

Instead, ask what you are needed for. What unique contribution can you bring to those in need? Identify the talents and interests that will allow you to be helpful and make an impact.

3. Take action steps.

Your purpose relates to your talents, but you can’t think your way to living with purpose. You don’t find your purpose by listening to an inspirational audio series or contemplating philosophy on a mountain-top retreat. You find it in action.

Just like exercise, you have to start somewhere. Find or create an opportunity to contribute, volunteer, open a business or take on additional responsibilities. Doing things to uniquely contribute to those around you should be part of your routine.

Without a concrete and sustainable action plan, the inspiration you’re feeling now will eventual fizzle, and you’ll wind up feeling empty and unsatisfied again. You don’t need to start big — but you do need to get started. Find a way you can give your time and your talent to others on an ongoing basis. Once a week? Fine. Once a month? That’s a start.

4. Review where you stand.

You won’t know where you stand without regular self-reflection. Every night, review what you did and ask yourself: Was that the best use of my time? Can I do more? Did I do too much? Can I delegate this, or should I spend more time doing it myself? Now you are learning by doing. That’s how you live with purpose.

In truth, you don’t just have one purpose. You have many. As you evolve, so will your purpose. When you were 15, your purpose may have been related to school, friends and parents. At 35, it could be attached to your spouse or child.

When you live your life asking what you are needed for, you adapt, change and grow. Along the way, you are able to contribute yourself to others — the ultimate purpose. Over time, you will gain insight into your unique purposes and better understand the things that only you can contribute.

In the end, whether you can pinpoint your purpose or not, you will have spent the better portion of your life helping others and living with purpose — which is always more more valuable than finding it.

Learning from Nature- Is Your Brand Connected?

The criteria used to determine what makes great leaders and brands is ever changing. Fortunately, there is a powerful learning environment available to us – Nature.   Nature is emergent, adaptive, resilient, co-creative, receptive and responsive. Qualities we could all use a little more of. Think about what the brand of your company stands for.

Nature is an ideal learning environment to be better leaders and create better brands. Here are 3 ways to incorporate nature into your journey:

ONE) Science now shows us that simply being in Nature improves our well-being, creativity, empathy, agility, self-awareness and natural ways of being-and-knowing (intuitive, rational, emotional, somatic intelligence’s). After being in Nature for at least 30mins, are hormones change, our senses liven, brain synapse connections enhance, left and right brain hemispheres inter-relate more readily, and we are able to draw upon more of our natural wisdom. Experiencing Nature helps us explore our sense of purpose, look into personal and organizational challenges, makes us better at empathizing with different viewpoints, while gaining perspective on our stuck patterns and biases.

TWO: There is a revolutionary shift taking place, affecting how we perceive life and our sense of place and purpose within it. This challenges us at deep and partly unconscious levels, calling in to question how we create and deliver value in business and beyond.  This transforms how we view life, from separateness (in business this manifests as viewing the organization as a machine, with compartmentalized problems)  to connectedness (realizing the organization is a living system, that our challenges are systemic in nature and that our living organization is intimately entwined with people at all levels- economic, social and environmental). In Nature, we can take inspiration from living systems in terms of the patterns, processes, relationships and the Eco-systematic nature of life.  Using this mindset you can create an abundance of creative innovation, resilience, purposeful living and agile emergent leadership.

THREE: To operate in today’s fast-moving ever-changing business environment, we need to call upon all of our natural ways of being-and-knowing. Those leaders who are better able to sense-and-respond effectively will not only do better in navigating these volatile uncharted waters, but will also create the conditions for their teams, brands & customers to perform more effectively.  Whether it be dialogue around the campfire, reflective time in the woods, or applying insights from nature into business, nature helps cultivate and deepen our ways of being-and-knowing, so that we can call upon our intuitive, rational and emotional intelligences more effectively.

VIDEO: How to Make a Great First Impression

In this video, Entrepreneur Network partner Paul Furlong explains how to answer a question we’ve all been asked a hundred times: “What do you do?”

“This is a brilliant opportunity to make a great first impression,” says Furlong. “But, I think most of us blow it, and leave money on the table . . . . so, how can you make that all-important first impression count to set the tone for the relationship that follows and the potential business that results from it?”

Reasons to Own Domain Names

Advertising Revenue: If you will be providing content on your site, you would be considered a publisher. Publishers make money by selling name brand products and services that are related to the site’s content. Commission Junction offers thousands of advertisers that want to offer products and services on your site.

Big Brands: See our Creative Domain Marketing link above to see the dozens and dozens of major name brands that are now buying “off-brand” domains to market their products and services. Do you have a domain that they might want? Congratulations, that domain is going up in value.

Brand: Develop your new domain name to feature your brand name products or services. All domain names are unique but there are only so many good ones relevant to your interests.

Competition: Buy related domain names so your competition can’t use them for their benefit and/or against you. What if they bought the domain names that you are thinking about buying? You may NEVER have the opportunity to own them ever again. And now the domains that you once liked are now being used to against you. Don’t look back someday and regret not buying the domain names you want.

Content: Use your new domain name for a blog, hobby site, specialty ecommerce site, community information, photo sharing, friends and family networking and more.

Cost Effective: Your cost is primarily the purchase price of the domain name. Annual renewal fees are less than $10 per year.

Credibility: Show your visitors that you are serious about your content. Build sites or park pages on good domain names and be proud of the domain names you own. If you are opening an online business, start with a good domain name. Show your visitors/customers that you are serious about your online venture and, in a few years, the domain will probably appreciate in value even if your business does not take off.

Creative Domain Marketing: See our exclusive list of 200+ domains that have been used by national brands yet the domain does not contain any brand name. This has been going on for over one year. Do you own any domains that a national brand name company might want to use?

Direct Navigation: This occurs when an end user types YourDomainName.extension into their browser directly without even searching to find your site. Many of our keyword-specific domains are  enjoy Direct Navigation.

Email: Use your new domain name to host email addresses. Create and use email addresses like sales@YourDomainName.extension or yourname@YourDomainName.extension. You will never have to change your email address again because your email provider/ISP changed.

Ecommerce: Build a storefront and sell your home made salsa or arts and crafts. Point your domain name to your eBay® seller’s page and then give it out to potential customers. A domain name is much easier to put on a business card or advertisement in a newspaper or magazine than a crazy eBay® seller’s list or storefront.

Express Yourself: What do you have to say? Build a political blog site, review the latest electronic gadgets or offer gardening tips. Tell the people what’s good and bad in the world.

Forwarding: Forward your new domain name to your existing website or any other web site/web page you wish. Buy all the related domain names that you can and point them all (masked to prevent duplicate content) to your existing site thus giving your main domain more reach.

Gifts: Buy a domain name for your mother’s hobby or your brother’s business and give it to them as a gift. Give domains to friends, family, co-workers, charities and good causes. See if they will give you a receipt for the value of the donation. Maybe the gift is tax deductible? Ask them for a permanent link back to your site of choice in return.

Grouping: Buy groups of domains when you can, especially if one seller has many that you want. You can probably get a nice package deal and all in one transaction. Buy the plural, the …ed, the …ing, the dash version and others in the keyword, category or industry that interests you.

Hosting: You can host your new domain at dozens of reliable hosts for less than $10 per month. You can change the nameservers and hosts as often as you like and your visitors never have to know the difference.

Investment: Hold for price appreciation. Read about recent domain sales, updated each Tuesday evening. A friend of mine has a saying about Cape Cod real estate… “You never pay too much. You just pay too early.” I think the same is true for quality domain names. Buy a domain and hold for price appreciation. Hey, build a little revenue site or park with pay-per-click and make some money while you’re waiting.

Jackpot!!!: If you have enough quality domain names (say one hundred or more) the day will probably come when someone will buy just one that will pay for all the rest. Example – If you have one hundred domains that cost you $10 each per year to renew then sell just one domain for $2000, that’s a 200 times return on your money. Sounds like a nice jackpot to me.

Keywords: If you bid on keywords at Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing to advertise your existing website, you should own domain names that include those same keywords that are important to your business.

Limited supply: Since there really aren’t any good domains left to be registered, they now have to be bought in the secondary market. If you have a good portfolio of domains, you are happy about this because prices are rising. If you don’t have a good domain portfolio, you had better focus on where you want to be in three years and buy up the domains you think you will be using.

Location, Location, Location: Buying a good domain is like opening a store in a great location. It may cost more money but you don’t see McDonald’s opening up a store behind some old warehouse (unless of course a highway exit ramp is planned for that location :-). What that means is that if you can see the “exit ramp” in the planning stages, buy domain names in that keyword, category or industry.

Marketing: YourDomainName.extension is much easier to say, spell and read than geocites.com/whatever/whatever. Looks much better in print too.

Mobility: Consumers are more mobile than ever and now have easy access to the Internet via their cellphones so there are more opportunities for people to use the Internet and visit your domain name or web site. Also, the new .mobi extension will take this mobile Internet to the next level thus creating even more demand for domain names.

Niche: Is it nitch or neesh? Who cares but as entrepreneurs, investors and developers settle into a niche, they will buy, hold and/or develop the domains they own. They will most likely try to buy more in their niche so if your niche is popular and in demand, what are you waiting for? You better start buying the domains you want tomorrow or they may NEVER EVER be available again…EVER!

Online Advertising Spending: A quick internet search for this term will provide you with plenty of proof that onine advertising spending has risen every year for many years and will continue to rise.

Today’s domain boom is being fueled primarily by the advertising dollars spent on traffic provided by domain owners. A July report from JupiterResearch predicted that online ad spending will soar to $25.9 billion by 2011. Approximately $12 billion was spent online last year according to figures from the Interactive Advertising Bureau. The report predicts continued gains for search marketing which surpassed display advertising last year with 41% of overall spending (display ads took 34% of the pie). JupiterResearch predicts online ad spending will jump 21% this year. Others expect an even higher growth rate for 2006. Universal McCann forecasts a 25% rise while research firm eMarketer says the number will be over 33%.

Portfolio: Owing a diverse portfolio of domain names will increase your “irons in the fire”. Keywords, categories and industries run hot and cold. Also, you may want to own a domain name that you will someday develop. If you have a nice portfolio of domain names, you will be able to pick the domain that’s right for your next online venture… and your next… and your next.

Print Advertisements: If you do any advertising in magazines or newspapers, you want a domain name that will catch the readers’ eye. Also, think about what you pay for one month’s print ad. Spend that amount to buy a good domain. So, if you spend $500 a month in advertising, get yourself a $500 domain name. If your advertising budget for one month is $10,000, there really is no reason that you shouldn’t own and be using a great domain name. MANY great domain names can be purchased for under $10,000.

Professionalism: Don’t dread giving out your web address or your AOL email address. Give them YourDomainName.com and me@YourDomainName.com.

Return on Investment: Most domains cost less than $10 per year for registration at many registrars. If you can make $.03 a day in revenue, you are profitable. If you can make $.06 a day, you are doubling your money. Imagine if you had a couple hundred domains making $1.00 a day. Sounds like a great job to me!

Pay Per Click Revenue: If you choose to park your domain with a “pay-per-click” revenue provider, they will optimize your domain’s parked page with keywords and links so visitors will find your domain and then click on an advertiser’s link. Each time a visitor clicks on an advertisement, you get paid!

Search Engine Results: Many webmasters argue that having a keyword rich domain will help your site show up better in search engine results.

Supply and Demand: There is obviously a limited supply of quality or unique brand domain names. As Internet use continues to explode around the world and among future generations, good domains will only increase in value.

Think ahead: Wayne Gretsky said he skated to where the puck was going to be, not to where the puck was at the time. Buy domain names that will be popular one to three years out and be patient. Wait for the industry and the market to develop then your investment should appreciate in value substantially.

Viral Marketing: Buy a memorable (brand or keyword) domain name and use it so others can easily pass it along to others so you can enjoy the power of viral marketing.

Visitor Experience: As potential visitors use search engines to find web sites, they are more likely to click on a site with a relevant domain name than some keyword-keyword-keyword.biz spammy looking domain name.
